Introduction

WHAT IS ALL-STAR CHEERLEADING?
All-Star Cheerleading is a competitive sport that combines tumbling, dance, stunting, jumps, and traditional cheer motions. Athletes train to perform high-energy routines that showcase strength, athleticism, teamwork, and performance skills.

HOW ARE THE TEAMS CONFIGURED?
All-Star teams are organized by age group and skill level. Teams perform professionally choreographed routines set to music and compete against other All-Star gyms. Routine lengths vary by division:
~ Elite teams perform 2½-minute routines
~ Prep teams perform 2-minute routines
~ Novice teams perform 1½-minute routines

Teams are placed based on age eligibility and skill ability. Below is a general age guideline for the current season:
Tiny Level: Ages 4-7  (Birth Years 2018–2022)
Mini Level: Ages 7–9 (Birth Years 2016-2019)
Youth Level: Ages 8–12 (Birth Years 2013–2018)
Junior Level: Ages 9–15 (Birth Years 2010–2017)
Senior Level: Ages 13–19 (Birth Years 6/1/2006–2013)
All-Star Cheer includes six difficulty levels, ranging from Level 1 for beginners through Level 6 for athletes with elite-level skills. Our training goal is to help athletes progress through all levels in a safe, confident, and development-focused manner. It is normal, encouraged and recommended for athletes to spend more than one season at a level to build strong fundamentals and long-term success.

HOW OFTEN DO TEAMS PRACTICE AND COMPETE?
All-Star teams compete between November and May of each year, with most teams attending between four and seven competitions per season. Teams may compete locally, regionally, and nationally depending on level and season placement. Practice schedules vary by team:
~ Elite teams practice two days per week
~ Novice teams one day per week
The All-Star season runs from tryouts in May through the final competition in April or May, depending on the team.

TEAM PLACEMENT & LEVEL EVALUATIONS

When athletes are evaluated for a team, the most important question to ask is: Has my child truly mastered the level? Is your athlete performing at the high end of that level and able to fully participate in every aspect of a routine? This includes stunting, tumbling, jumps, dance, and performance. While there are occasional exceptions, such as a needed back spot for a higher-level stunt or a small elite flyer, these situations are not common. Consider the following:
~ Can your athlete perform the hardest stunts at that level?
~ Can they be a center dancer?
~ Can they be front row in jumps?
~ Can they perform the last tumbling pass?
~ Are they physically, and more importantly, mentally, ready to move up?

If an athlete has not fully mastered a level, placing them higher can add unnecessary pressure. Athletes may be asked to attempt advanced tumbling while also elite stunting, jumping, and dancing for a full 2½-minute routine. In many cases, it is far more beneficial to allow an athlete an additional year to shine, build confidence, and feel fully involved in the routine.

ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE
We also often hear: “My child has all Level 4 tumbling, but this is their first year of cheer.” Tumbling skills alone do not determine readiness for a higher-level All Star team. Cheerleading requires safe stunting progressions, proper jump technique, choreography awareness, standing and running combinations, and performance skills. Being a strong tumbler does not automatically mean an athlete is ready for complex elite stunting. Athlete safety, both for the individual and for teammates, is always our top priority. Trust our coaching staff to place athletes where they will be the most successful and safest.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
There will always be exceptions, but they are few and far between. As coaches and parents, it is important to look at the long-term development of the athlete. While we believe in challenging athletes, that challenge must be appropriate and confidence-building. The majority of athletes would rather be on a team where they are fully involved, confident, and impactful than move up a level where their participation is limited. Athletes want to be part of every section. They want to have their moment. Trust the process. You do not have to agree with every decision, but you do need to trust it. All Star Cheer is demanding, and if it is not fun while also building confidence, athletes will not continue in the sport.

WE DO NOT ACCEPT REQUESTS FOR TEAM PLACEMENT.

COMPETITIONS

COMPETITION LOCATIONS & TRAVEL
Competition locations may change throughout the season. While we will always do our best to avoid changing competition weekends, adjustments can occur due to scheduling or event circumstances beyond our control. Please do not book hotels, flights, or other events that cannot be changed or refunded. We strongly recommend booking flexible travel arrangements whenever possible. We also try to keep our Regular Season competitions within a 150 mile radius. For the 2025-26 Season, our competitions were all within 150 miles of travel, with the exception of 1 competition in Wisconsin Dells (3 hours). A TENTATIVE 2026-27 Competition Schedule will be posted on the website soon.

POST-SEASON EVENTS
All qualifying teams will attend the All Star World Championships and/or an alternative year-end event. These events are considered Post-Season and are not included in regular yearly pricing. Post-season participation requires the team to earn a qualifying bid at a sanctioned competition. Attendance is contingent upon receiving that bid. Additional post-season fees will apply and will be communicated in detail if a team qualifies.

PRACTICES
PRACTICE POLICIES & ATTENDANCE
Practices are mandatory in order to compete. Any All-Star athlete who misses a practice within the two-week period prior to a competition (Blackout Weeks) will not be permitted to compete at that event. There are no exceptions. Any All-Star athlete who accumulates five (5) total absences during the season will not be permitted to finish the season. However, the athlete will still be held financially responsible as outlined in the All-Star contract. Upon termination of membership, all uniforms and purchased items become the property of Scorpions Elite. Scorpions Elite is a team sport. All members are required to attend every practice. There are no excused or unexcused absences; only absences. All absences count toward the total. All scheduling conflicts must be submitted in writing at least two weeks in advance.

CAMPS & CHOREOGRAPHY
Choreography camp will be held July 2025. Exact week and daily schedule will be sent out soon. Teams will not attend every day. Assigned camp days will be communicated by May 30, 2025. Camps are mandatory.

CROSSOVERS
Crossovers are an important part of operating a small gym. On your tryout form, you will be asked whether your athlete is willing to participate as a crossover athlete. Crossover athletes allow us to:
~ Field additional teams when numbers are limited
~ Place veteran athletes where leadership is needed
~ Strengthen team athleticism and competitiveness
Crossover athletes do have additional fees, however they are not double the first-team fee.

COMMUNICATIONS & PAPERWORK

Communication is the most important tool in running a successful program. Our primary form of communication is BAND. Email, text messaging, website updates, and Facebook are all secondary methods.
Please ensure we have your correct:
~ Email address
~ Phone number
~ Mailing address

If you change your phone number or email address, you must notify the front desk immediately so we can keep your contact information current. BAND links will be posted here following tryouts.

CONTRACTS & PAYMENTS
In order for Scorpions Elite to provide the quality instruction and competitive experience families expect, all All-Star athletes are required to complete an All-Star contract and provide credit/debit card information. This is mandatory. No exceptions. Failure to do so will result in the athlete not being listed/chosen for team(s) after tryouts. All clients are required to submit a credit/debit card through our Parent Portal system. Payment information must be entered and verified prior to the first practice in May. The All-Star contract will be completed electronically online and must be finalized prior to tryouts. Any unpaid fees not paid prior to the 1st of the month will be automatically drafted on the 1st.

TEAM WARM-UPS & COMPETITION ARRIVAL
We will be using team warm-ups. Upon arriving at competitions, all Scorpions Elite athletes must be dressed in their team warm-ups. Warm-ups must also be worn during awards ceremonies.
